Ready Responder Training

Ready Responder Training

Presented by World Cares Center

Thu, Sep 17th, 2026
11:00 – 12:30 PM
Staten Island Giving Circle | 4170 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10308

In recognition of September 11 as a National Day of Service, Staten Island Community Organizations Active in Disaster (SI COAD) is hosting World Cares Center for a 90-minute Ready Responder Training focused on practical skills community members can use to safely support their neighbors and organizations during an emergency.

Ready Responders are everyday community members who are prepared to step in and help when disaster strikes. This introductory training covers:

  • Introduction to Disaster Volunteerism
  • Hands-Only CPR, an effective technique for helping maintain blood flow until additional care arrives
  • Stop the Bleed, including techniques for responding to severe bleeding

Emergency planning asks communities to be ready to respond to the first 72 hours on their own. Before outside response arrives at full scale, the people helping are the ones already there – a neighborhood nonprofit, a local house worship, a group of neighbors.  This training teaches practical skills to support the realities of that role.

Whether you work or volunteer with a nonprofit, faith community, or neighborhood group, or you simply want to be better prepared to help the people around you, this training is built to help everyday people more safely jump into action and serve. You don’t need any prior experience, and everything covered is something you could put to use if disaster struck tomorrow.

Free parking is available on Walnut Ave and Hylan Blvd – southbound; metered parking is available on Hylan Blvd – northbound.

Light refreshments will be available.
