From Contract to Partnership: Navigating NYC Systems with Confidence

Navigating New York City systems—from contracting and compliance to communication and coordination—can be especially challenging for small, new, and growing nonprofits. For organizations that are volunteer-driven or building internal capacity, City funding can feel both critical and complex.

This session brings together Michael Sedillo, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Nonprofit Services (MONS), and Michael Arvanites, Staten Island Trustee to the City University of New York and longtime public sector advisor, to offer both a systems-level and practical, on-the-ground perspective.

Together, we’ll walk through the NYC contracting lifecycle—including proposal submission, registration, compliance, invoicing, and payment timelines—while addressing common challenges and realistic strategies for strengthening internal coordination, documentation, and readiness.

Designed specifically for small and emerging nonprofits, this session will provide actionable insights to help you navigate City processes with greater confidence and position your organization for stronger partnership with New York City.
