The Nonprofit Staten Island Membership

Background

Since 2005, the Association has provided resources, support and advocacy for the borough’s nonprofit sector. The Association was created to provide a single “voice” for the sector’s members, regardless of size or mission, and enhance the economic impact that nonprofits provide to Staten Island.

What Organizations Are Members of the Association?

Since last year, the Association has doubled in size as organizations see increasing value in being a member. Today, the Association has over 100 members including cultural institutions, faith-based organizations, health care providers, senior and youth service providers, and local community groups. They provide borough wide services, they serve their local community, or a select group of individuals, such as children, people with disabilities, or seniors. Being a member allows you connect with nonprofits leaders you may not otherwise ever meet, leaders that share the same experiences you do.

Why Join the Nonprofit Staten Island?

A survey conducted by the Association shows the impact of the borough’s nonprofits on the economy:

  • Staten Island nonprofits serve more than 2 million people annually.
  • Over 10,000 people volunteer with Staten Island not-for-profit organizations each year.
  • The borough’s nonprofit organizations employ more than 20,000 people, over 20% of all people working in the borough, making it the largest employment sector on Staten Island.
  • Of organizations and businesses in the borough that employ more than 100 individuals, over 40 of them are nonprofit organizations.
  • The sector is the leading supporter of local businesses including restaurants, and technical assistance providers (plumbers, electricians, IT, additional utilities, etc.).
